An online daily putting "Hooray!" in your day
We could not know the light within if it were not for the darkness.
Those of us living in the northern hemisphere of the planet are on the cusp of winter. The maple trees are in that last stretch of giving up their leaves to gravity, wind and the cyclical forces of nature. Daylight is less energetic and full. Our homes are burning with that unnatural light given off by the electric light bulb. The season of holidays come at the darkest time of the year, and sometimes they bring with them the twins of sadness (sometimes even depression) and physical/mental stress.
Finding our reserve of inner glow is critical then as it's easy to fall prey to the darkness that sits directly next to the bursting flame. You know of what I speak. The inherent joy of all the holidays that are fast upon us can give way instantaneously when someone's cheer can remind us of the loss of a child, parent, sibling or friend. You fill in the blank. A particular yummy food that is only baked at this time of year--while it is melting in our mouths--can take us back to the divorce and our former spouse's disgust with the very delight we are consuming. The smiling faces can feel like sneers and finger-wagging in a crowded mall or busy sidewalk. You have your list of these positive-negatives or negative-positives. They precariously live side-by-side in us and we pray for the good memories to buoy us and that the painful ones do not approach. Continued at THD Blog
