Smile and the World Smiles with You
Smile, and the world smiles with you. I penned these words in 1999 while in my first year of law school. Walking through Union Square in San Francisco every day, I saw and felt the bustle of humanity—the tourists, the merchants, the servicemen and women and the many homeless—all, on my way to and from my classes. In the array of faces and clanging of the trolleys, I encountered a man that inspired me even though I never learned his name.
He sat at the corner of Geary and Powell on the sidewalk. He sat because he could not stand, as he was a double amputee. He was in a banged-up wheelchair. I presumed that he was homeless because I saw him there without fail every single day.

THD Poster (Get Your Hooray On!)
Inaugural Shout-Outs Coming on Thursday, November 7th! (Check them out and be apart of the cheer!)
Some have asked us for more information about these funny things called "Shout-Outs"...
You know how on the radio after 9 p.m. or so, there are these "love" DJs who send out syrupy, sweet sentiments, from Brad to Rachel or John to Jay about their anniversary or about a recent break up? Imagine that, with something a bit more cheery, yet less saccharine...Intelligent, bold and confident cheer.
We will vet these requests to ensure that they are rated G and post these well-wishes, congratulations and "well-dones" every Thursday on the Shout-Outs page (with some on the front page). Here's an example: "Sarah sends a "well done" to Frank for the first publication of his poetry in the New Yorker. His poem entitled, "The X Factor" appeared in the September 15th issue to great acclaim. Way to go, Frank! Keep up the incredible work! It's fabulous, just like you!"
Notice that we don't use last names, UNLESS, you would like them used and both parties give permission!
We'll also attach a picture of you (submitter of the Shout Out) and/or the person who is receiving the kudos, provided that you submit a photo. These will be shared in the slide show on that page and potentially with our Facebook fans (again, no name attached to picture to keep privacy).

Yes, they are from New Jersey and not Kansas, where the best bluegrass festival is held every year in Winfield, Kansas. Here, you'll find them on TED Talks.
