Friendship had reached out from a stranger. Love and kindness had melted away a difficult day for my sweetheart at work because of a “stranger’s” small act of faith. This unknown gift-giver took a chance and sent out into the world a humble request: to accept the love and to pay it forward without the expectation of a “thank you” or even a knowing smile in return.
The small act was exquisitely large in effect. The truth is those things that have a huge impact on the world start as a simple and kind gesture. Just one. Then another. Soon, the world is flooded by that first act.
You and I are made for goodness. What will your simple action be today? What gift will you offer without thought as to its impact?
That notebook inspired pure love. Andrea wrote a few sentences that inspired her to be her best self, and then as quickly and randomly as she had found it, she placed it on the tow path during a walk we were taking in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Not more than half a minute later, a woman caught sight of the lavender cover, stooped over, picked it up and placed it in her pocket. She clutched her husband’s arm and strode further along the path. We saw the “pick-up”, turned and walked away in silence and gladness.
